Richard Hammond admits he HATES being called 'The Hamster' - and says he'd rather be called this instead
TV star Richard Hammond has revealed how he’d rather his nickname was ‘The Wolf’ or ‘The Hawk’ instead of ‘The Hamster’.
The 48-year-old, who presented Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson and James May from 2002 to 2015 before the trio switched to Amazon with The Grand Tour , said he got his nickname from BBC motoring expert Zog Ziegler.
The nickname came about because of his surname and because he is ‘short’, standing at just under 5ft 6ins tall.
Speaking this weekend, the TV star said that his first-born daughter Isabella, now 17, was the original ‘Hamster’ and should have the nickname instead of him.

He said: “My nickname, the Hamster, I owe to a man called Zog Ziegler who, in terms of big breaks, I owe more than anybody else.
